KBS Coatings Application Guides & Product Directions

Most projects follow the KBS 3-Step System: clean and degrease with KBS Klean, etch and remove surface rust with RustBlast, then apply your coating such as RustSeal. Topcoats like DiamondFinish Clear or BlackTop go on last for color and UV protection. See the KBS 3-Step System overview for the full sequence.

Yes. Adhesion and long-term durability depend on clean, properly prepared metal. Skipping surface prep is the most common cause of coating failure. Start with the KBS Klean and RustBlast directions before applying any KBS coating.

Technical data sheets for RustSeal and Tank Sealer are listed in the Resources & Reference section above. To request a Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for any KBS product, use the SDS request form.

Yes. Our instructional videos walk through RustSeal, Tank Sealer, NuMetal, and more. Pair them with the written directions and flow charts for the full picture.

Apply two coats of RustSeal at about 2 mils each. See the RustSeal Directions for temperature range and recoat window.

Most KBS coatings bond directly to properly prepped bare metal and do not require a primer. Fusion Self-Etch Primer is used on hard-to-adhere surfaces such as aluminum, galvanized metal, and fiberglass. Check the directions page for your specific product to confirm.
