Plastic fuel tanks in lawn tractors, ATVs, small engines, and outdoor power equipment become porous over time — especially when exposed to ethanol-blended fuels. The KBS Plastic Tank Sealer System is engineered specifically for hard plastic tanks (HDPE and rigid plastic), providing a permanent, fuel-impervious seal that stops weeping and seeping. Not for use on flexible plastic containers such as portable gas cans.
Three Steps to a Sealed Tank

Plastic fuel tanks in small engines, lawn tractors, ATVs, and outdoor power equipment become porous over time — particularly when exposed to ethanol-blended fuels. The KBS Plastic Tank Sealer System is engineered specifically for hard plastic tanks, providing a permanent, fuel-impervious seal that stops weeping and seeping without cracking, peeling, or interfering with fuel delivery.
Unlike metal tank repair kits, plastic tanks require a dedicated adhesion promoter rather than a rust treatment. This system includes Fusion SEP — a plastic surface prep designed to clean and prime the tank interior so Gold Standard Tank Sealer bonds permanently to the plastic substrate. Once cured, the silver metallic coating is flexible enough to expand and contract with the tank while remaining impervious to gasoline, diesel, and alcohol-blended fuels including E10, E15, and E85.
Water-based, heavy-duty cleaner and degreaser. Removes fuel residue, oil, and grime from the tank interior to ensure a clean surface before sealing.
Plastic surface prep and adhesion promoter. Etches and primes the plastic substrate so Gold Standard Tank Sealer bonds permanently — a step unique to plastic tank repair.
Single-component, ready-to-use sealer that forms a tough, permanent, fuel-impervious coating. Flexible enough to expand and contract with the plastic tank. Full cure in 4 days.

The KBS Plastic Tank Sealer System is a complete three-step kit engineered to permanently seal hard plastic fuel tanks that are weeping or seeping fuel. It includes KBS Klean (degreaser), Fusion SEP (plastic adhesion promoter), and Gold Standard Tank Sealer (the permanent sealing coat). All three products work together to clean, prep, and seal the interior of the tank — stopping fuel weeping and protecting against ethanol-blended fuels.
This kit is designed for hard plastic fuel tanks, including HDPE (high-density polyethylene) and other rigid plastic substrates commonly found in lawn tractors, riding mowers, ATVs, portable generators, and similar small-engine equipment.
No. This kit is not suitable for flexible plastic containers such as portable 5-gallon gas cans. It is designed for rigid, hard plastic tanks only. Flexible plastic containers flex and compress during use, which would compromise the cured sealer coating.
Fusion SEP is a plastic surface prep and adhesion promoter specifically formulated for plastic substrates. Plastic tanks cannot be treated with rust removers or acid etches the way metal tanks can — they require a different approach to achieve a bondable surface. Fusion SEP etches and primes the plastic interior so Gold Standard Tank Sealer adheres permanently. Skipping this step would result in poor adhesion and sealer failure.
Once cured, Gold Standard Tank Sealer is impervious to gasoline, diesel, and ethanol-blended fuels including E10, E15, and E85. It is also resistant to most common solvents.
Gold Standard Tank Sealer reaches full cure in 4 days. Do not return the tank to service or introduce fuel before the full cure period has elapsed. Curing time may vary slightly based on temperature and humidity — optimal curing conditions are above 60°F with good ventilation.
Choose your kit based on your tank's capacity:
If you're unsure of your tank's capacity, refer to your equipment's owner's manual or measure the tank dimensions.
No. This kit is specifically designed for plastic tanks. Metal tanks require a different prep process including rust removal and metal etching. For metal fuel tanks, use the KBS Tank Sealer System for Metal Tanks.
