Six short questions

KBS Coatings is a small paint manufacturer in Valparaiso, Indiana. We build every gallon here, we answer our own phones, and a good share of the people who call us learned to work on vehicles and equipment in uniform. The discount is our way of saying thank you.

We ask a few questions before we hand out the code. That is deliberate. A discount that anyone can claim by typing a word into a box is not really a thank you to anyone. Verifying takes you about a minute and keeps the program meaningful for the people it is meant for.

Who Qualifies

The KBS service discount is open to the following groups. All must be U.S. based.

Group Who This Covers
Veterans Anyone who served in the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Space Force, or Coast Guard and separated under honorable conditions.
Active Military Active duty service members, plus Reserve and National Guard members in any drilling status.
First Responders Sworn law enforcement officers, career and volunteer firefighters, and licensed EMTs and paramedics.
Military Spouses Spouses of active duty, Reserve, National Guard, retired, and veteran service members.
Gold Star Families Immediate family members of a service member who died in the line of duty.

Not on this list and think you should be? Send us a note. We would rather hear the case than have you assume the answer is no.

What We Ask For, and Why

We do not ask you to upload a DD-214, a military ID, a driver's license, or any other document. Those carry your Social Security number, your date of birth, and your address, and a small company has no business collecting and storing that. Instead we ask for a handful of details that are easy for you to give and hard for someone to fake convincingly.

Everyone provides

  • Your name and email address. The code goes to the email you enter, so use one you check.
  • Which group you fall into. Veteran, active military, first responder, military spouse, or Gold Star family.
  • Your branch or department. For example: U.S. Marine Corps, Indiana National Guard, Portage Fire Department, Porter County Sheriff.
  • Your rank, rate, or role. For example: Sergeant, Petty Officer Second Class, Paramedic, Engineer, Patrol Officer.
  • Your dates or years of service. Approximate is fine. "2004 to 2011" or "12 years, still serving" both work.
  • A signed statement that the information you gave is accurate and that you are eligible.

Helpful, but optional

  • A service email address. A .mil, .gov, or department domain address is the single strongest thing you can give us. If you include one, we send the code straight to it and approve on the spot. Nothing else needed.
  • A certification or badge number. A state EMT or paramedic license number, a state fire certification number, a POST number, or a badge number plus department. These are publicly verifiable and are not sensitive personal identifiers.
  • Your unit, duty station, or station number. For example: 1st Battalion 24th Marines, NSA Crane, Station 3.
A note on military ID cards. Please do not send us a photo of a CAC or military ID. Reproducing them is restricted under federal law, and we do not want or need one. The questions on the form are enough.

How It Works

  1. Fill out the form below. Six short questions, about a minute.
  2. We review it. A real person at KBS reads every request. If something is unclear we will email you and ask, rather than turning you down.
  3. You get your code. We email you the discount code along with a thank-you. Enter it at checkout to take 15% off your order.

Typical turnaround is one business day. Requests that come in over a weekend or a holiday are handled the next business morning.

Request Your Discount Code

Fill this out once. The code we send does not expire, so keep the email.

Before You Start

  • Six questions, about a minute. Nothing you need to go dig up first.
  • Nothing to upload. No DD-214, no ID scan, no photo of a badge. We do not want those and we do not store them.
  • A person reads it. Not a bot and not an automatic approval. That is the whole point of the form.
  • Your code does not expire. Request it once, use it on every order after that.
  • We do not share what you tell us. Not sold, not traded, not added to any list you did not ask for.
Have a .mil, .gov, or department email address? Put it in the optional field and we approve on the spot, no waiting for review.

Not sure whether you qualify? Ask us rather than guessing. We would rather hear the case than have you talk yourself out of it.

What We Do With Your Information

Your request comes into our support system as a ticket. We read it, approve it, and send your code. We do not sell, rent, trade, or share what you tell us with anyone, and we do not add you to any list you did not ask to join. If you would like your request deleted after your code is issued, say so in the form and we will delete it.

Discount Terms

  • 15% off retail orders placed at kbs-coatings.com.
  • One code per person. Please do not share it.
  • Cannot be combined with other coupon codes or promotional discounts.
  • Does not apply to wholesale, reseller, or distributor pricing.
  • Does not apply to gift certificates or shipping charges.
  • KBS Coatings reserves the right to verify eligibility and to decline or revoke a discount.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. KBS Coatings offers 15% off to U.S. veterans, active duty, Reserve and National Guard members, sworn police, firefighters and EMS personnel, military spouses, and Gold Star family members. Complete the verification form on this page and we email your code within one business day.
No. We do not accept document uploads at all. The form asks for your branch or department, your role, your years of service, and a signed statement of eligibility. That is it. We deliberately avoid collecting documents that carry your Social Security number or date of birth, because storing that kind of information is a risk we would rather not create for you or for us.
Usually within one business day. If you supply a .mil, .gov, or department email address on the form, we approve on the spot and send the code straight to that address. Requests submitted over a weekend or holiday are handled the next business morning.
The program as written covers currently serving sworn law enforcement, firefighters, and licensed EMTs and paramedics. If you are retired from one of those roles, contact us and tell us about it. We would rather look at your situation than have the form turn you away.
Request it once. The code we send does not expire, so save the email and use it on any future order. There is no need to fill out the form again.
No. The service discount cannot be stacked with other coupon codes or promotional discounts, and it does not apply to wholesale or reseller pricing. Use whichever offer saves you more on a given order.
Get in touch with your order number and we will see what we can do. If your order has not shipped yet, we can usually take care of it.
Because a code anyone can grab off a coupon site stops being a thank you and turns into a sitewide sale. Asking a few questions keeps the discount going to the people it was meant for, and it costs you about a minute.
