What is the All-In-One Chassis Kit?
The KBS All-In-One Chassis Kit is a complete chassis painting system that cleans, de-rusts, seals, and topcoats roughly 50 square feet of frame or undercarriage. The kit adds a pint of BlackTop UV-stable topcoat to the full KBS 3-Step System of KBS Klean, RustBlast, and RustSeal, so a frame gets its rust barrier and its finish coat from one purchase.

RustSeal is the rust barrier in this kit: a single-component coating that goes directly over treated rust, cures by absorbing atmospheric moisture, and forms a rock-hard, non-porous shell against moisture and oxygen. RustSeal itself is rated to 600°F (316°C), resists abrasion and chemicals, repels fuels, oils, most acids and alkalis, and will not crack, flake, or peel. Finished with BlackTop over the top, the completed system carries BlackTop's 500°F rating, since the topcoat is the layer taking the heat.
BlackTop is the finish coat, and it is why this kit exists rather than the Frame Coater Kit alone. RustSeal holds its rust protection in sunlight but its color and sheen change under prolonged UV, so an exposed frame needs an opaque UV-stable topcoat over it. BlackTop is a single-stage 1K urethane in Gloss Black, OEM Satin Black, or Flat Black that adds that UV protection without a separate clear coat.
Two coats of RustSeal plus one coat of BlackTop cover roughly 50 square feet of chassis. Satisfaction guaranteed!
RustSeal seals the metal, BlackTop takes the sunlight. BlackTop passes 2,000 hours of B117 salt spray when applied over two coats of RustSeal.
The All-In-One Chassis Kit contains four coatings plus the consumables needed to apply them: KBS Klean, RustBlast, RustSeal as the base coat in a choice of 11 colors, a pint of BlackTop topcoat in a choice of 3 sheens, KBS #1 Thinner, brushes, gloves, a stir stick, and written instructions. Together they cover roughly 50 square feet at two coats of RustSeal and one coat of BlackTop.
- KBS Klean — Industrial strength water-based cleaner and degreaser. Strips the grease, oil, and road film that would otherwise keep the coating from bonding.
- RustBlast — Rust remover and zinc phosphate metal prep. Neutralizes rust and leaves an etched, phosphated surface that RustSeal grips.
- RustSeal — Non-porous, waterproof rust preventive sealer, applied in a minimum of 2 coats at roughly 2 mils each. Available in 11 colors, though in this kit RustSeal is the base coat under BlackTop, so the color is your preference rather than the finished look.
- BlackTop — Single-stage 1K urethane topcoat with UV protection and flexibility, in Gloss Black, OEM Satin Black, or Flat Black.
- KBS #1 Thinner — Thins RustSeal and BlackTop for spray application and handles cleanup before the coatings cure.
- Brushes, Gloves, Stir Stick and Instructions — The consumables every chassis job needs, included so nothing stops the work halfway through.
Which RustSeal Color Should I Choose?
Any of the 11 RustSeal colors work identically as a rust barrier, so the choice is cosmetic and depends on whether BlackTop will cover it. On a frame getting the full BlackTop finish, Gloss Black or Satin Black under the topcoat is the usual pick. Gloss levels vary by color: Gloss Black runs 85 to 95 percent, Satin Black 70 to 75 percent, Galvanized 30 percent, and the remaining colors 75 to 85 percent. The RustSeal color guide shows every option side by side.
The All-In-One Chassis Kit applies directly over treated rust rather than requiring blasting to bare metal, and it finishes the job in the same purchase by including the UV-stable topcoat. RustSeal is a single-component, high-solids formula that cures by combining with atmospheric moisture and is strengthened by repeated exposure to it, which is the opposite of how most primers behave.
- Applies Directly Over Treated Rust: High surface tolerance means no blasting to bare metal, only prep with KBS Klean and RustBlast.
- Single Component Formula: No hardener to mix, no pot life to race, no wasted material at the end of a session.
- Moisture Cured and High Solids: RustSeal combines with atmospheric moisture to cure, and repeated moisture exposure strengthens the film rather than degrading it.
- Permanent Non-Porous Barrier: Seals metal against moisture and oxygen, the two things rust needs, and is mold and mildew resistant.
- 500°F Finished System: BlackTop resists heat to 500°F and RustSeal underneath to 600°F, so the completed coating covers everything on a chassis except the exhaust.
- High Abrasion and Chemical Resistance: Repels fuels, oils, most acids and alkalis, and graffiti, and will not crack, flake, or peel.
- Flexible Under Load: The coating expands and contracts with the metal, so frame flex and heat cycling do not crack it.
- Brush, Roll or Spray: Superior flow and leveling in all three application methods, with brushes included in the kit.
- Compatible and Compliant: Compatible with all paint systems, VOC compliant, and lead-free.
The All-In-One Chassis Kit coats almost every metal part on a vehicle except the exhaust, including frames, floor pans, wheel wells, suspension parts, axles, and springs. Beyond automotive work, the same RustSeal and BlackTop combination is used on marine, industrial, and household metal, from boat trailers and bilges to hand rails and lawn equipment.

- Industrial
- Heavy transport, steam pipes, concrete sealing, air conditioning repair, fiberglass repair, rebar coating, steel roofing, and fuel and waste-water treatment tanks.
- Household
- Hand rails, support beams, lawn equipment, garage floors, pipe work, appliances, and lead-based paint encapsulation.
Spraying this kit? Always wear an air-supplied respirator, or a NIOSH/MSHA approved organic vapor particulate respirator, when spraying RustSeal or BlackTop, along with gloves and safety glasses, and always work in a well-ventilated area. Brush and roller application still calls for gloves, glasses, and ventilation.
One All-In-One Chassis Kit covers roughly 50 square feet at the recommended build: two coats of RustSeal at about 2 mils each, followed by one coat of BlackTop. That is enough for most single frames, an axle and suspension group, or a set of floor pans. Larger jobs step up to the Large or Ultimate versions of the same kit rather than stretching this one thin.
Timing that matters: Apply RustSeal between 55°F and 82°F and allow 2 to 6 hours between coats. Stretching a kit past its coverage by thinning the coats out is the most common way a chassis job comes up short.
Pro Tip: Two thin coats beat one heavy coat every time. RustSeal cures from the outside in by pulling moisture from the air, so a coat applied too thick skins over on top while the film underneath is still soft.
The All-In-One Chassis Kit differs from buying a can of chassis paint in that it treats the rust rather than covering it: KBS Klean and RustBlast remove the contamination and neutralize the rust first, RustSeal seals the metal in a non-porous barrier, and BlackTop supplies the UV-stable finish. A single chassis paint applied over an unprepped, rusty frame is sitting on the very thing it is meant to stop.

The All-In-One Chassis Kit is built for metal that has to survive salt, moisture and road chemicals for years, which is why it carries the cleaner and the acid etch as well as the color. On metal that is already clean, sound and rust free, a single chassis paint covers a cosmetic refresh. Anywhere rust has already started, the prep in this kit is what decides whether the finish is still there in five years.
There are two correct windows for topcoating RustSeal with BlackTop, and both produce a chemical bond between the coats rather than a mechanical one. Missing both means the topcoat sits on a fully cured, glass-smooth surface with nothing to grip.
- Option 1 — Dry to the touch
- Apply BlackTop once the final coat of RustSeal is dry to the touch, usually 3 to 6 hours depending on temperature and humidity. The coats fuse together.
- Option 2 — Fully cured and scuffed
- Let the final RustSeal coat cure for at least 24 hours, scuff with 320 grit, clean the dust off, then apply BlackTop.

The best chassis paint is one that treats the rust rather than covering it, then holds up to sunlight, so it is really a two-layer answer: a rust barrier and a topcoat. The KBS All-In-One Chassis Kit pairs RustSeal, a non-porous moisture-cured coating that goes over treated rust and is rated to 600°F on its own, with BlackTop, a single-stage 1K urethane that adds UV protection in Gloss, OEM Satin, or Flat Black. Together they cover roughly 50 square feet of frame.
Chassis and frames are usually painted with a moisture-cured coating that seals the metal, then a UV-stable topcoat over it. RustSeal is a single-component, high-solids coating that cures by absorbing atmospheric moisture and forms a rock-hard, non-porous barrier. BlackTop is a single-stage 1K urethane topcoat in Gloss, OEM Satin, or Flat Black. Both apply by brush, roller, or spray, and this kit includes both plus the KBS Klean and RustBlast prep that makes them bond.
Not with this kit. RustSeal bonds directly to bare, treated-rusty, or previously painted steel after KBS Klean and RustBlast prep, so no separate primer goes on first. In the All-In-One Chassis Kit, RustSeal is effectively the base coat: it seals the metal, and BlackTop goes over it as the finish. Skipping the prep is what causes a chassis coating to fail, not skipping primer.
Ordinary chassis paint covers rust but does not stop it, because the film stays porous and moisture keeps reaching the metal underneath. RustSeal stops it by forming a permanent non-porous barrier that seals the steel from moisture and oxygen, the two things rust needs, and repeated moisture exposure strengthens the film rather than degrading it. Applied over RustBlast-treated metal, it keeps rust from coming back under the BlackTop finish.
For an underbody that takes road spray, salt, and stone chips, use a flexible, non-porous, moisture-cured coating rather than a standard enamel. RustSeal stays flexible through frame flex and heat cycling, resists abrasion and chemicals, and repels fuels, oils, most acids and alkalis. The underside of a vehicle is shielded from direct sun, so RustSeal alone holds up there; where the frame is exposed to sunlight, BlackTop over it keeps the finish from dulling.
Yes, with the right prep. RustSeal is designed to go directly over treated rust, so a frame does not need blasting or sanding to bare metal. What does have to come off is loose scale, flaking rust, grease, and road film: KBS Klean degreases, then RustBlast neutralizes the remaining rust and leaves a zinc phosphate surface for RustSeal to grip. Both are in the kit.
Allow 2 to 6 hours between coats of RustSeal, applied between 55°F and 82°F (13°C to 28°C), and put on a minimum of two coats at roughly 2 mils each. RustSeal cures by absorbing moisture from the air, so higher humidity shortens the window and lower humidity lengthens it. Avoid rainy or high-humidity conditions where the surface cannot stay dry. Judge by the surface, not the clock alone.
Two windows work. Apply BlackTop once the final coat of RustSeal is dry to the touch, usually 3 to 6 hours depending on temperature and humidity, and the coats fuse chemically. Or let the final RustSeal coat cure at least 24 hours, scuff it with 320 grit, clean off the dust, and then apply BlackTop.
Brush, roll, or spray all work, and brushes are included in the kit. RustSeal and BlackTop both have flow and leveling characteristics that let brush marks settle out. If you do spray, thin with KBS #1 Thinner (also included) and wear an air-supplied respirator or a NIOSH/MSHA approved organic vapor particulate respirator.
As a finished system this kit is rated to 500°F, because BlackTop is the outer layer and BlackTop resists heat to 500°F. The RustSeal underneath is rated to 600°F (316°C) on its own. Either figure covers essentially every part of a chassis, drivetrain, and engine bay except the exhaust system itself. For headers, manifolds, and exhaust components, use a dedicated high-temperature coating rather than this kit.
