KBS UnderCoat is applied by cleaning the surface with KBS Klean, then spraying, brushing, or rolling a rubberized or asphalt-based coating onto wheel wells, gas tanks, frames, and floor pans. Apply light coats and allow 10 minutes between aerosol coats, or 2 hours between brush and roll coats. The coating is dry to the touch in 60 minutes and reaches full cure in 2 to 4 hours.

Description:

KBS UnderCoat provides protection in wheel wells, gas tanks, frames, and floor pans. It produces a tough, flexible film with excellent adhesion and helps prevent road salt from eating away at your car's metal and fiberglass. KBS UnderCoat offers excellent adhesion to metal or painted surfaces, provides moisture and corrosion resistance in a black finish, and helps deaden road noise and vibration.

Surface Preparation:

Surfaces must be free of dirt, dust, oil, grease, and any contamination that may interfere with adhesion. Remove any loose paint, rust, oil, and grease. Use KBS Klean diluted 5:1 to clean the surface and ensure excellent adhesion. Allow the surface to dry thoroughly. Mask off the area to avoid overspray on the auto finish.

Aerosol Can Directions:

Shake the can for at least 60 seconds after the agitator ball moves freely. Hold the can 10 to 12 inches from the surface and apply a uniform coat. Apply light coats, waiting about 10 minutes between coats. The coating is dry to the touch in 60 minutes and reaches full cure in 2 to 4 hours.

Clean the spray head immediately after use by turning the can upside down and spraying until no more paint appears. If clogging occurs, remove the spray head and clean it with a fine wire. Replace it carefully, pointing the can and spray head away from you.

Bulk Can (Quart/Gallon) Spray Directions:

The surface should be clean and dry. Shake the can well before using.

KBS UnderCoat is applied with the Schutz Underseal Spray Gun or an auto body Schutz-style applicator gun. Contents may be poured into a clean container pot that fits your applicator gun. Thinning is not usually needed, but you can thin KBS UnderCoat with KBS #1 Thinner for solvent-based formulas or with water for the water-based formula. Excess coating may be removed with KBS #1 Thinner for solvent-based, or soap and water for water-based.

Bulk Can (Quart/Gallon) Brush/Roll Directions:

Mix thoroughly to ensure any settled pigment has been re-dispersed. For best appearance, apply using a high quality synthetic paint brush or synthetic roller. Do not use on surfaces that will be exposed to rain or moisture within 24 hours after application.

Dry and recoat times are based on 70°F (21°C) and 50% relative humidity. Allow more time at cooler temperatures. The first coat dries to touch in 1 to 2 hours. Apply the second coat after 2 hours. The second coat can be topcoated after 24 hours. Allow a minimum of 24 hours to fully dry.

Cure Times:

Solvent-Based: For best results, use between 70°F and 90°F with 50% or less humidity. Apply light coats, waiting about 10 minutes between coats. The coating is dry to the touch in 60 minutes, with full cure in 2 to 4 hours.

Water-Based: For best results, use between 70°F and 90°F with 50% or less humidity. Apply light coats, waiting about 30 to 60 minutes between coats. Dry times vary based on temperature, humidity, and application rate; typical dry time is 30 to 60 minutes to the touch, with 24 hours to completely cure.

Clean-Up:

Solvent-Based: Clean KBS UnderCoat from the spray gun immediately after spraying with KBS #1 Thinner. Wipe excess KBS UnderCoat from any unintended surfaces immediately with KBS #1 Thinner. Properly discard the empty container.

Water-Based: Clean KBS UnderCoat from the spray gun immediately after spraying with KBS Klean diluted 1 to 1 with warm water. Wipe excess KBS UnderCoat from any unintended surfaces immediately with KBS Klean diluted 1 to 1 with warm water while wet, or with KBS #1 Thinner once dry.
