Cavity Coater is sprayed in one thin coat of about 1 mil inside enclosed metal, then left 10 minutes to wick into seams before excess is wiped off with mineral spirits. Apply between 70 and 80 degrees F onto a dry surface, after every exterior coating has fully cured. Nothing can be painted over Cavity Coater.

ALWAYS WEAR PROTECTIVE GLOVES AND SAFETY GLASSES. ALWAYS WORK IN A WELL-VENTILATED AREA. Please heed all labeled warning and caution notices on all products. When Cavity Coater is sprayed into an enclosed area such as a door panel, solvents may require several hours to escape; keep that area away from heat, sparks, electrical devices and open flames during that time.

To achieve expert results, please take the time to carefully read and understand the following directions before you begin your restoration project. These directions are meant to be general guidelines only and do not cover every application or environmental situation. Surface Preparation:

Cavity Coater requires minimal surface preparation to be effective. Remove any readily accessible loose scaly rust. If grease or oil is present, clean the surface using KBS Klean. The surface should be dry.

CAUTION: Avoid contact with skin, eyes, and clothing. Wear protective gloves and protective goggles. DO NOT SMOKE. Use only with adequate ventilation during application and drying.

NOTE: Do not caulk or paint over Cavity Coater. Cavity Coater should be applied AFTER paints and coatings have completely cured.

Coverage:

Aerosol: 125 sq. ft. @ 1 mil thickness.
Quart: 200 sq. ft. @ 1 mil thickness.
Gallon: 800 sq. ft. @ 1 mil thickness.

Aerosol Can Directions:

Shake extremely well before use and occasionally again often during the application process. Hold the can approximately 8 to 12 inches from the surface to be coated. Apply a thin, even coat of 1 mil thickness. Cover completely but do not over-saturate. Wait 10 minutes for the coating to wick into the seams and weld joints. Remove any excess coating with a clean rag dampened with mineral spirits.

NOTE: Do not caulk or paint on top of Cavity Coater. For additional protection, Cavity Coater can be applied to weld seams after painting, if desired. Remove any excess Cavity Coater as described above.

Using the Cavity Wand

The Cavity Coater Aerosol with Cavity Wand work best when the temperature is between 70 and 80 degrees F. For hard to reach enclosed cavities, attach a Cavity Wand to the Cavity Coater Aerosol can by gently pushing the spray tip in to the aerosol can and giving the spray tip a slight twist as you push it in. Insert the Cavity Wand into the cavity. Depress the spray tip and withdraw from the cavity at about 2 inches per second. Repeat to ensure complete coverage or as needed.

Bulk Can (Quart and Gallon) Directions:

Cavity Coater requires minimal surface preparation to be effective. Remove any readily accessible loose scaly rust. If grease or oil is present, and if possible, clean the surface using KBS Klean. The surface should be dry.

Cavity Coater must be room temperature. Stir Cavity Coater well for 3 to 5 minutes until Cavity Coater has achieved a homogeneous state.

Cavity Coater is applied through the KBS Schutz Underseal Spray Gun with a KBS 48 inch 360 degree Spray Wand or an auto body Schutz applicator type gun with spray wand. Thin Cavity Coater 30 to 50 percent with KBS #1 Thinner or mineral spirits as needed. Stir the Cavity Coater mixture for 3 to 5 minutes until the mixture has achieved a homogeneous state. The pressure at the gun should be 90 to 150 PSI as needed. Cavity Coater may be poured into a clean container pot which fits your applicator gun.

Apply a uniform coating of Cavity Coater to interior surfaces. For optimum protection, a 1 mil dry film is recommended. Varying air pressure and wand speed through the cavity area will aid in determining coverage. Typically move at 2 inches per second.

WARNING: If product is to be sprayed into enclosed areas such as door panels, the solvents in Cavity Coater may require several hours to escape. During this time, the enclosed area must be kept from heat, sparks, electrical devices, or open flames which could ignite vapors.

Using Cavity Coater With RustSeal:

Using Cavity Coater along with RustSeal gives the ultimate in rust protection: Inside PLUS Outside Rust Protection. RustSeal protects the outside of the surface and Cavity Coater protects the interior cavity of the surface. Sealing both sides of the surface will give the longest lasting rust protection.

Order of Application Note: If using RustSeal and Cavity Coater, prep the surface and apply RustSeal FIRST. Then let the RustSeal cure. Then do the Cavity Coater application. The order is important because it is normal to get Cavity Coater on the exterior surface when applying and RustSeal will not adhere to Cavity Coater. Conversely, there is no issue getting Cavity Coater on fully cured RustSeal.

Removing Excess and Cleaning the Cavity Wand:

Lightly dampen (do not soak) a clean dry rag with mineral spirits and wipe off any excess Cavity Coater.

NOTE: Do not caulk or paint over Cavity Coater. Cavity Coater should be applied AFTER paints and coatings have completely cured.

Flush residual coating from the Cavity Wand by inverting the Cavity Coater Aerosol can and spraying for 10 seconds to flush the Cavity Wand.

Frequently Asked Questions About Cavity Coater

The Cavity Coater Aerosol and Cavity Wand work best between 70 and 80 degrees F. Quart and gallon Cavity Coater must be at room temperature before it is stirred and thinned.
Yes. The surface should be dry before Cavity Coater is applied. If grease or oil is present, clean the surface first with KBS Klean and allow it to dry.
No. Cavity Coater requires minimal surface preparation. Remove any readily accessible loose scaly rust and leave the rest.
No. Do not caulk or paint over Cavity Coater. Cavity Coater should be applied AFTER paints and coatings have completely cured. For additional protection, Cavity Coater can be applied to weld seams after painting, with any excess removed.
Last. If you are using RustSeal, prep the surface and apply RustSeal first, then let the RustSeal cure, then apply Cavity Coater. RustSeal will not adhere to Cavity Coater, and getting Cavity Coater on the exterior surface during application is normal.
Thin quart and gallon Cavity Coater 30 to 50 percent with KBS #1 Thinner or mineral spirits as needed. Stir 3 to 5 minutes before and after thinning, and set the pressure at the gun to 90 to 150 PSI.
On an aerosol application, wait 10 minutes for the coating to wick into the seams and weld joints. Then lightly dampen (do not soak) a clean dry rag with mineral spirits and wipe off any excess Cavity Coater.
Flush residual coating from the Cavity Wand by inverting the Cavity Coater Aerosol can and spraying for 10 seconds.
