Unlike conventional spray paints, its high-solids formula delivers at least twice the coverage per can -- a 16oz can covers up to 38 sq. ft. and a 12oz can covers up to 30 sq. ft. It also features a professional fan-pattern spray head for even, blotch-free application. The formula is 100% UV stable (it will not fade), resists chemicals and temperatures up to 300°F, and is specifically formulated as the topcoat partner for RustSeal in the KBS corrosion-prevention system.
KBS Top Coater Aerosol adheres to bare steel and aluminum, cured RustSeal, painted surfaces, primers, and woodwork. It is used across a wide range of applications: cars, motorcycles, wheels, bicycles, tractors, agricultural and construction equipment, commercial vehicles, snow plows, boats and personal watercraft, aerospace components, tools, and doors. It also bonds over most existing topcoats and primers, making it an excellent touch-up or refinish option. Note that coverage is reduced by up to 50% on bare wood or heavily textured/sandblasted surfaces.

If your project requires a specific adhesion primer for a non-metallic substrate, KBS Fusion SEP self-etching primer is compatible as an inter-coat layer.

KBS Top Coater 1K Aerosol is rated to withstand up to 300°F. This makes it suitable for engine bay components, valve covers, brackets, and other parts that see moderate heat. If your application involves sustained temperatures above 300°F -- such as exhaust manifolds or headers -- consider a dedicated high-temperature coating instead. For components that run at or below 300°F that also need UV resistance and color, KBS Top Coater Aerosol is the right choice.
Start with a clean, dry surface -- degrease with KBS Klean and allow to dry completely. If applying over RustSeal, ensure it is fully cured before topcoating. Shake the can thoroughly for at least 2 minutes after the mixing ball begins moving. Hold the can 10--12 inches from the surface and spray in steady, overlapping passes using the fan-pattern nozzle. Apply in thin, even coats rather than one heavy coat to prevent runs. Work in temperatures between 50°F and 90°F and avoid applying in direct sunlight on hot metal surfaces. After use, invert the can and spray briefly to clear the nozzle tip and prevent clogging.
KBS Top Coater Aerosol bonds to a variety of surfaces beyond bare metal, including fiberglass and many hard plastics, when properly prepared. For fiberglass, lightly sand the surface to create mechanical adhesion, wipe clean, and apply in thin coats. For flexible plastics, adhesion can vary significantly by plastic type -- test on a small inconspicuous area first. For best adhesion to plastics and fiberglass, applying a compatible adhesion primer (such as KBS Fusion SEP) before the Top Coater improves bite and long-term durability. After use, invert the can and spray for 2--3 seconds until only propellant comes out -- this clears the nozzle and prevents clogging for next use. For overspray or drips on unintended surfaces, remove wet product with MEK or acetone before it cures. Once fully cured, the coating is very resistant to solvents and mechanical removal is required. Dispose of empty or unusable cans in accordance with local regulations. Use nitrile gloves and adequate ventilation during application -- do not spray near open flames.
These two products are different tools. KBS Top Coater Aerosol is a pigmented topcoat available in 30+ colors, providing UV stability, chemical resistance, and color in a single product. DiamondFinish Clear 1K Aerosol is a water-clear, permanently flexible clear coat -- it adds gloss and additional UV/chemical protection over an existing color coat, but provides no color itself. In fact, the two products work well together: apply KBS Top Coater for your color, then add DiamondFinish Clear Aerosol on top for a deeper gloss and an added layer of protection. DiamondFinish Clear is rated to 250°F and reaches 5H pencil hardness after 5 days.
