Yes. You can heat cure XTC on a furnace exterior by firing the furnace. Bring the surface up to 350 degrees F slowly, hold it for 20 to 50 minutes, then let it cool back to room temperature slowly.

Curing XTC on a Furnace: Quick Facts

Cure temperature: 350 degrees F surface
Hold: 20 to 50 minutes
Ramp: up slowly and down slowly
Before heat: at least 8 hours after the final coat
Primer: 1 to 2 thin coats of XTC Primer
Not for: open flame contact or cooking surfaces
Ventilate: XTC can give off vapors during the first few heat cycles. Keep the area well ventilated while the furnace cures the coating.

Target Temperature and Time

XTC reaches full hardness at about 350 degrees F surface temperature. On a furnace, wood stove or similar equipment, firing the unit itself does the cure. Raise the temperature gradually, hold the surface at 350 degrees F for 20 to 50 minutes, then let it cool gradually. A slow ramp both ways helps the coating cure evenly. Start only after the final coat has had at least 8 hours to flash off.

Coat Sequence

Prep to clean, sound metal, wash with KBS Klean at 10 to 1, rinse and dry. Apply 1 to 2 thin coats of XTC Primer for rust protection, then your XTC color in thin coats. liquid XTC is rated to 1500 degrees F. XTC aerosols and XTC Clear are rated to 1200 degrees F, and XTC Primer is rated to 1200 degrees F on its own and 1500 degrees F under liquid XTC. The XTC directions cover every step.
