How do I use BackBone Fiberglass Mesh to repair pinholes or weak areas in a fuel tank?

The BackBone Fiberglass Mesh is designed to reinforce weak areas, pinholes, and weld seams on the exterior of a fuel tank.

If your tank has pinholes or structurally weak areas, you can use BackBone Fiberglass Mesh in combination with Tank Sealer on the outside of the tank to strengthen and reinforce those areas.

BackBone Mesh Repair Procedure:

  1. Prep both the inside and outside of the tank using KBS Klean and RustBlast. Allow all surfaces to dry completely.
  2. Seal the inside of the tank following the standard Tank Sealer process.
  3. Immediately after sealing the inside, use any remaining Tank Sealer to apply a thin coating over the exterior pinhole or repair area.
  4. Place a properly sized piece of BackBone Fiberglass Mesh directly into the wet Tank Sealer.
  5. Apply another thin coat of Tank Sealer over the mesh, brushing outward from the center to fully embed the fiberglass.
  6. Allow the repair area to cure fully.

Please review the complete Tank Sealer Application Directions before starting your project, as they walk you through the full process.
