How Do I Prepare New Metal Before Applying RustSeal?
New metal straight from the factory carries solvents, manufacturing residues, and oils on its surface. It is critical to clean the surface first with KBS Klean before moving on to the etching step.
New metal is also typically very slick, which makes proper etching especially important. Spend adequate time on the RustBlast step to ensure a thorough etch across the entire surface. This creates the anchor profile that allows RustSeal to bond with maximum adhesion.
Tip: Do not skip or rush the RustBlast step on new
metal. The smoother and cleaner the raw surface, the more time RustBlast
needs to develop a proper etch. A well-etched surface is the single
biggest factor in long-term coating performance.
