Can RustSeal be top coated?
Yes —
RustSeal
can absolutely be top coated with a solid-color, UV-stable finish.
What are the recommended methods for top coating RustSeal?
There are three proven methods to ensure proper bonding and intercoat adhesion when top coating RustSeal:
Option 1: Apply your topcoat while the second or final coat of RustSeal is dry to the touch and does not leave a fingerprint (typically 3–10 hours depending on temperature and humidity).
Option 2: Allow the second or final coat of RustSeal to fully cure for a minimum of 24 hours, then scuff the surface with 300-grit sandpaper before applying your topcoat.
Option 3: Allow the second or final coat of RustSeal to fully cure for a minimum of 24 hours, then lightly dust the surface with Fusion Self-Etching Primer. Allow the primer to cure for approximately 30 minutes, then apply your topcoat.
